Yay!!!! All-state is over (at least in Texas it is).

I am soooo relieved.

Violinists... please to be helping me out!? [22 Sep 2006|10:49pm]
[ mood | exhausted ]

Does anybody know any light and happy or slow and pretty EASY songs for violin?

My gramma's 90th birthday tea party is this coming weekend and I need more pieces to play -- and when I say easy, I mean easy... ish. The pieces I already picked out are things like Bach's Minuets Two and Three (Suzuki book one for the win!), Gossec's Gavotte, Long Long Ago, etc. This is my 8th year playing violin but I've got orchestra and chamber group rehearsals, plus school and everything so practice time is definitely limited.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Hi guys! I was feeling bored and hyper and so I decided to post a colour bar I made dedicated to the string bass. If you want a colourbar for your instrument, I can make one if you send me the pictures, what colours you want which one, and a caption to put under it and then give me some time to make them.

O' course, being a bass player, I had to rep' my instrument first :-P

[ mood | blah ]

Hi, my name is Allie, and I'm an Orch. dork.

Heh! Had to make the AA joke.

Anyway, I'm a string bass player (2nd chair this year, w00t!) who likes classical over jazz (Bottesini in particular). My favourite songs for the string bass (well, this one's a bass solo with an orchestra behind it) is "Une Larme" For Double Bass - Giaccino (sp?) Rossini or (for bass and piano) Capriccio For Double Bass And Piano - Neil Rabaut. Anyone who gives me a site where I can buy sheet music for the Rossini song will have my eternal gratitude (I've been unable to find it for the past year of looking).

Aside from that, I love being in an orchestra. It's my favourite class, mostly because just playing (an honest to god, productive rehearsal) can cheer me out of just about any bad mood. That and my teacher kicks ass, but that's beside the point.

In all four years of bass playing, I've only ever met one other high school girl bass player. Sad, no? I'd like to meet more bass players in general, it seems we're a dying breed.

soon to orchestra [03 Sep 2005|05:44pm]

[ mood | forever musical ]

My school year starts in 4 days. I'm really excited to get back and see my orchestra friends. My orchestra teacher and I are a little off because I sort of backed off after I came to the reality that I can't make it as a music major. I always knew the chances were slim considering my level of playing but regardless it will always be a part of my life.
Anyway that was not meant to be the focus of this entry. I can't wait to play cello. I don't know much and I am probably going to get lessons outside of school but it's such a beautiful intrument!! I'm so excited!

now that it's summer I really haven't been busy. I've had a few strolling string jobs [ like a marching band of strings ] .

I also was the soloist and first violinist [ out of two ] for the orchestra pit for the local summer dramatics production which proformed the musical " Oliver " That was quiet an experance..and I truely enjoyed it and say I will probably do orchestra pit again, in my opinion it was more fun in orchestra pit playing the whole time, then being in the chorus or backup dancers which I usually get in that production. So if you have the chance to try out for it, it's something to try for, for a change.. it's so random because the stage people for us at least are kids, and constantly screw up so it's amusing.

Currently, I am in the middle of band camp. I'm a clarinetist in the Big Butler Band [ link to band website here or if that doesn't work http://www.goldentornadoband.com/ .. check it out :) ]. which is awsome, Butler's band is one of the biggest bands and has traveled and performed in the macy's day parade, pasadena tournament of roses parade , this year we are going to toronto for the toronto santa claus parade. and next year we are accepted in the Citrus Bowl Parade in Orlando, Flordia. and we applied for Pasadena again and we will most likely get in for our second year.

anywho. once school starts up, we'll have tapeing for chairs.. hopefully I can be top 3 chairs.. I'm not really expecting first (even though it'd be really nice) because i'm only a freshman and the other people get lessons of the acual teacher and it's kindof.. obvious they'll get first chair.

anywho i'll stop babbling in this poor community, but, hardly anyone posts anymore [ thank you to those who do ] and I don't want it to become totally dead. so spread the word about orchadorks please and thank you!

is anybody out there? [14 Aug 2005|09:25am]

[ mood | cool ]

Am I the only complete orch dork that posts here anymore? Needless to say I survived camp and it made me a better person in the end. I think I am going out to be a first violin this year in orchestra. I can only hope my orchestra teacher trusts me enough which I think she does... Anyway fiddle gig tonight. so exciting!

[ mood | awesome ]

Still here for a couple more days. It's awesome. We have festival choir with the whole camp, the orchestra is awesome. We just did a pops concert with Skitch Henderson on Monday. Saturday is the final concert with Capriccio Espangol and Romeo and Juliet. They were actually insane enough to make ME a first violin. But I am doing good. There's loads of programs like jazz, musical theater, composition...There's guest artists and concerts... Technique and sightreading, small ensembles like quartets, awesome stuff like that. I strongly recommend this camp. You grow a lot in two weeks!

Hi. My name is Shannon and yes, I am a complete orchestra dork! :) I'm 16 and have played violin for 5 and a half years and cello for less than 24 hours! I am going to my first music camp in 18 days! Also getting ready to audition for colleges in the fall and winter... Yikes! I am learning things by myself! And I am also part of a fiddle group modeled after barrage called Just In Time: Fiddles On Fire. My favorite composer is Vivaldi. And yea, I guess that sums up this introduction! ;)

about me...because you i *know* you all want to know [17 Mar 2005|04:08pm]

okay, so my name's megan and i joined orchadorks because, well, i <3 orchestra:) i'm a sophomore from near albany, ny. i play viola, clarinet, and piano, along with several other instruments which i'm teaching myself in my spare time. i've been playing viola for 6 years and clarinet for 2 years. i just started playing piano last september. i'm in a group that covers most of the capital region of new york and some of western mass. called esyo(empire state youth orchestra). we have a concert on sunday and we're playing at troy savings bank music hall. esyo's a great organization because it gives us an opportunity to play in amazing halls like troy, tanglewood, and carnegie hall. so yeah..it's amazing. um... i guess that's about it.

[ mood | creative ]

Hello.. I am you moderator of this community.

As you know this community is about.. well Orchestra to say the least so.. lets see

I have played Clarinet for about 4 years now and am currently 1st chair. I got bored and picked up violin about a year ago.. and found that I really liked it. last year I signed up to do band and orchestra at school, and soon moved up in chairs. This year I am first chair first violin and first chair clarinet.

I love music, its a huge part of my life I'm in Strolling Strings ( A group of strings that is kindof like what marching band does of the string section and goes to schools and plays for kids while walking around ) String Symphonetts is an advanced orchestra for kids. I am also trying out for my local communities kid full symphony orchestra.

We still need a lot more members so please try to promote this if you can :) and feel free to post about yourself in here..

~your mod. Cara
